![]() ![]() Fitment workouts are led by Fitbuddies, and you have the option to decorate a room for them as you progress through your workouts. In a press release, Glossbird founder Alina Matson said: “For the Fitment game, we took inspiration from extremely popular games like Wii Fit, Duolingo, and Animal Crossing to deliver a comfy experience for people who want to introduce small and easy workouts into their busy schedules.” That inspiration is very clear right from the get-go when you start playing. ![]() And compared to console fitness titles, it’s nice to have this game easily accessible on your phone because your phone tends to be more readily available when you’re traveling or on the go. It’s a low-effort, low-time way to get some movement in during the day that’s pretty customizable to what you prefer to do. While I mostly stuck with standard and stretching mode, since that’s my preferred workout style, the sitting mode is a great feature that makes these micro workouts even more accessible – especially to beginners and other individuals who are interested in getting into working out but may feel lost in terms of where to start.īut even for people who may have established workout routines already, I think Fitment makes for a complementary addition to someone’s daily or weekly schedule. I found the experience of mimicking my FitBuddy’s movements similar to following along with YouTube workout videos, especially since it’s easy enough to set my phone on a surface where I can see the movements I need to be making. Sitting mode offers players the chance to do exercises that are adapted to sitting, like seated alternating leg lifts and chair-ups.Īnd once you start working out, no matter the mode you choose, you follow along with a FitBuddy on screen who shows you what to do. Standard involves your typical standing workouts while stretching focuses on - you guessed it - stretching! The mode that stood out most to me most was sitting. You have the freedom to turn certain exercises off that you’d rather not do (or, if you’re like me, you can rotate them out every few days to mix up your routine). On starting up Fitment for the first time, I had access to 25 different exercises including crunches, neck release, shoulder stretch, and lunges. Micro workouts make for easy goal setting For someone who enjoys working out and cozy games, Fitment definitely fills a unique spot for me. It’s been a neat little addition to my routine, especially thanks to its variety of workouts and the slice of self expression I’ve found in decorating my in-game room. I spent a week playing with the app and incorporating it into my own daily workout routine to get a good feel of how the game works. ![]() Released into early access on September 19 for both iOS and Android, the mobile game “aims for a cozy, accessible, and positive experience in order to help its players develop healthy habits and make regular exercise more convenient and less intimidating” through micro workouts that can easily be done in one-minute to five-minute increments. ![]() I'd struggle to call any of Microsoft's apps intuitive, but OneNote is familiar. (Otherwise you can draw one on with your trackpad, but it'll be less stylish.) It feels like a solution purpose-built for students and anyone else who has to take long, discursive notes about something, rather than people looking for a digital notebook to collect short snippets and random ideas. This means you can drag and drop in an image, click anywhere to add some text notes beside it, and if your computer supports a stylus, scribble a mustache on everyone in the photo. ![]() And each page is basically a canvas where you can add any kind of note you like, anywhere you want. Each Notebook is modeled off a ringbinder, so it's divided into sections with subsections called pages. OneNote is incredibly freeform when it comes to taking notes. It's Microsoft's answer to Evernote (the next app on this list), though without the need for a monthly subscription. Microsoft OneNote is a free and full-featured note-taking app. While you will find free note-taking apps on this list, many of the best apps charge a reasonable subscription price, and as long as it was warranted by the features offered, that was no barrier to inclusion. At Zapier, we love a good free app, but with things as permanent as digital notes, that has to be balanced against the likelihood of the service surviving the next few years and being able to offer server-based features like syncing. ![]() You can't be locked out of your notebook because you don't have Wi-Fi.įinally, we had the value for money test. At a minimum, we required each notepad app to be available on one desktop and one mobile platform, and to have some kind of offline functionality. Similarly, the biggest reason to have a notes app instead of a notebook is that you can access it from anywhere on any device at any time, whether you're at your desk at work, chilling on your couch at home, or flying coast-to-coast. This rule also extended to other features: editing and sorting notes had to feel seamless and natural, rather than require a battle with a horrible user interface. If it wasn't almost as convenient to open a notes app and create a quick note as it was to reach across my desk for a Moleskine and a pen, it didn't make the cut. The real competition here wasn't other note-taking apps, but a pen and scrap of paper. Second, all the note-taking apps had to be quick and easy to use. Not every note-taking app needs to have features like image-to-text conversion or stylus support, but if it boasted about them, they had to be well-executed and nice to use. This sounds like an easy bar to clear, but you'd be surprised at how many apps fell short. With so many apps to consider, we had some pretty strict criteria for what made a great notes app.įirst, the best note-taking software has to be good at what it claims to do. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site-we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. All of our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. ![]() Sail to the right until you are past the lighthouse. Machines take his limp body offscreen, and what happens after that is unclear. Neo is presumably dead, as he’s last seen allowing Smith to infect him before the Machine leader uses his plugged-in body as a conduit to purge Smith. Luckily, it worked out, and there’s the promise of an actual, lasting peace… Well, at least until The Matrix: Resurrections. Speaking with the Architect, the Oracle admits she helped orchestrate all this, taking a big gamble on Neo. Humanity is saved and the Machines say they’ll make good on their promise, sparing Zion and offering everybody the choice to leave the Matrix. Neo battles Smith but realizes he can’t beat him in a straight fight, and so he allows his nemesis to infect him, a seemingly fatal decision-and in doing so, gives the Machines the direct access they need to purge Smith, since Neo is logged into the Matrix through them. If Neo can defeat Smith, the Machines will stop their attack on Zion and forge a peace with humanity. Despite the loss, Neo reaches the Machine leader and cuts a deal: Smith has taken over every single person and program inside the Matrix, meaning the Machine’s energy source is in danger. They make it to the Machine city despite heavy resistance, and Trinity tragically dies when their ship crash-lands. Neo can still “see” the machines, though, as he’s somehow still tapped into their code. Neo is able to kill the flesh-and-blood Smith, but not before Smith blinds him with a gnarly electrical cable during their fight. Meanwhile, Neo and Trinity are attacked by Smith, who snuck aboard their ship. Neo’s role isn’t to end the war, it’s to start the cycle over again. He’s the sixth, and the entire prophecy is a sort of failsafe that allows the Machines to keep humans alive in the Matrix so long as they have the potential to reject its unreality. In an effort to fulfill the prophecy before the Machine army wipes out Humanity, Neo eventually meets a program known as the Architect (Helmut Bakaitis), who reveals the horrible truth: Neo isn’t the first One. No longer an Agent serving the Machine’s agenda, Smith has gone rogue and has become a self-replicating virus who is turning the inhabitants of the Matrix into copies of himself. Meanwhile, in the Matrix, we learn that Agent Smith was not actually destroyed, but he has been changed. Their numbers are such that it seems almost impossible for humanity to fight them off. In the real world, the Machine army is bearing down on Zion, the only “real” human city, located deep, deep underground. In The Matrix: Reloaded, Neo has become even more powerful, but things are looking grim, both in the real world and inside the Matrix. Once in the real world, where they operate from a cool ship called the Nebuchadnezzar (one of many resistance ships, each with its own crew), Morpheus explains the nature of reality. They offer him a Red Pill that frees Neo from the Matrix. He encounters Trinity (Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), figures who are renowned cybercriminals in the world of the Matrix but who are really members of the human resistance against the Machines in the real world. The first movie introduces Neo (Reeves), a seemingly normal guy with a skill for hacking. It, along with all the other movies, is streaming on HBO Max. The rest of the Animatrix is fine, but The Second Renaissance is extremely good, extremely upsetting, and adds a lot of context to the franchise. We get a brief recounting of this history in the first Matrix, released in 1999, but to see it play out properly you can watch The Second Renaissance, a two-part segment in The Animatrix, an anthology film produced by the Wachowskis that came out ahead of 2003’s Reloaded. While it’s cool to see the levels being much larger, they aren’t filled with anything of substance, so it feels empty. There’s even a few moments where Sam will get to pilot a mech and destroy any enemies that stand before him, or drive a farming harvester. It may feel like it’s open world at times, especially when you get to the countryside level where you’ll want to take a vehicle to drive to your objective, but aside from the sidequests, there’s no real reason to take the time and explore these vast areas. This simply means you doing more running from point to point. ![]() Taking place across different continents, the maps are much larger than previous titles. While completely optional, these side quests not only add some more playtime but rewards are generally worth it, usually adding a whole new weapon to your arsenal or an upgrade. While the series has been simplistic in its design, running from point A to point B while you wait for C to open up, now the introduction of side quests have been added for those that want a little more. ![]() This though is gated behind a skill tree system that allows you to customize your Sam to your preferred playstyle. Some elements from their VR outing in the series makes a return in Serious Sam 4, like dual wielding weapons, not only of the same kind, but different as well. It’s the same gameplay and gating that the series has had for 20 years, so while classic fans will rejoice the gameplay is unchanged, while new players might not be as impressed. Repeat this a few times per level and for each chapter and you have a blueprint to Serious Sam 4’s level design. Defeat all the waves of enemies and you’ll be granted access to progress further in the stage. But wait, you won’t be able to go through the door for some reason, forcing you to face off against dozens of Mental’s horde as you try to survive. Follow the somewhat linear path until you reach a doorway you need to go through. Throughout the 15 chapters your goal is to simply get to the end of each, usually culminating in a boss fight of some sorts, some much larger and memorable than others, especially the final boss fight that is easily my highlight of the complete series. You’ve come here to blast some aliens in the face with some guns, and that’s what you’ll focus on until the credits roll. With 15 chapters to get through, only the hardcore and faithful Serious Sam fans will care the slightest bit about the story, such as finally meeting Lord Achriman. You’ll be traveling across the globe searching for the Holy Grail, help a Nonna in Rome, exploring vast open fields and of course, shooting hundreds of alien monsters. I admit, there’s a little more story here than in previous games, though that’s not a very high bar to reach. Technically a sequel to Serious Sam 3: BFE, which in itself is a prequel to the original game, Serious Sam 4 once again has Sam and his band of comrades taking the fight against Mental’s hordes of endless enemies. Serious Sam 4 takes the classic gameplay formula we’ve come to expect from the series and cranks it up another notch by making the levels much more vast and making hundreds of enemies appear on screen at one time. With quite a few Serious Sam titles under their belt, the time has obviously come for the latest sequel, especially with the latest generation of consoles now available. While developers Croteam have made a couple non Serious Sam games, that’s basically what they’re known for, as it’s a showcase of their own engine, their bread and butter so to speak. Serious Sam also never took itself seriously (see the irony?) and just gave you access to tons of guns, some of which were quite unique and still iconic to this day. If it moved, you shoot it, that’s the Serious Sam way and still maintains that to this day. What made it so different was that it had you facing dozens of enemies at a time, focusing on its gunplay and level design as opposed to any real sense of narrative. While the world was already used to shooters, I don’t think there was anything quite like Serious Sam at the time. Back in early 2001 an interesting new shooter emerged onto the market, Serious Sam: The First Encounter. |
